The linebacker drafted in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft played his first seven seasons in Seattle. Scholtz started 95 of his 96 career games with the Seahawks recording 9.5 sacks and five interceptions. He finished his NFL career following his lone season in New England in 1989.
