Although he was undrafted out of Colgate, Eugene Robinson was successful in making sure his name was scattered throughout the Seahawks record book. Robinson did not start any games his rookie year, but did play in all the games that season and accounted for two interceptions. In a secondary that included Hall of Famer Kenny Easley and Seahawks Ring of Honor member Dave Brown, Robinson went on to start all 16 games the following season.
“A lot of defensive backs are satisfied just to knock the ball away,” Robinson told the Hartford Courant. “Or to make a big tackle. I want to get the ball. That’s what Kenny Easley and Dave Brown always told me. `Don’t just go for the big hit — get the ball.”
And that mindset and advice from the veterans eventually led Robinson to making his first of three Pro Bowls in 1992. That season, Robinson had seven interceptions, two forced fumbles and 94 tackles. He followed that Pro Bowl nod up with a consecutive Pro Bowl season, with a league-high tying nine interceptions and 111 tackles.
After his Seahawks career, he went on to play for the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. He added another Pro Bowl nod and a Super Bowl win with the Packers in 1996 to his resume.
