A Tacoma native, Marcus Trufant was selected out of Washington State by Seattle in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft and spent all 10 seasons of his NFL career with his hometown team. As a rookie, he recorded two interceptions, one fumble recovery, and 83 total tackles on his way to being named to the 2003 NFL All-Rookie Team.
“Mike Holmgren called him ‘Money,’” Paul Silvi of KING 5 said. “He knew that when the ball was going in Trufant’s direction that Trufant had it covered. Intercepted, knock it down. He was known as a tremendous cover corner, and not only at Washington State, but that’s what got him to the Seahawks in the first round. The Seahawks knew who they were getting.”
In 2006, the team nominated him the Seahawks Man of the Year. And the following season, he recorded seven interceptions, including three in a single game against Arizona which is tied for the most in franchise history, and was named to his first ever Pro Bowl. Trufant served as the defensive team captain in 2011 and his 21 career interceptions is seventh-most in franchise history. Trufant finished his NFL career with 644 tackles, 112 passes defensed, 21 interceptions and two career interceptions returned for touchdowns. In April 2014, after having spent the 2013 offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Trufant signed a one-day contract to retire as a Seahawk.
Now, Trufant, although no longer on the football field, stays connected to the Seahawks community by his entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors in the Seattle area. On any given day, Trufant could be making an appearance at a mental health awareness panel, a flag football event or supporting a small local business.
