Rufus Porter began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent out of Southern University and made an immediate impact for the Seahawks. Porter earned a Pro Bowl nod his rookie year after his special team’s performance that season.
“I remember him from the sacks, but I think the special teams stuff is what people remember with Rufus Porter,” Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times said. “He was just another one of those guys, hair on fire going after it and making big plays at kickoff and punt coverage. That was something that was a really big deal for those Seahawk teams in that time, I think fans really got excited about.”
Porter’s role grew during his time with Seattle and in his second year he had 10.5 sacks, 49 tackles that earned him another Pro Bowl honor. Porter played five more season for Seattle, racking up 98 games played, three interceptions, 37.5 sacks and 388 tackles.
